#46 4 YouTube Videos

Have you ever watched a YouTube video?

Go to the home page of  YouTube, www.youtube.com.  Type “acoustic neuroma” in the Search box. You’ll be amazed at the number of results – 5,200 as of today. Many of the videos are by patients who have had surgery and describe their symptoms both before and after surgery. Some of the videos are by doctors, so these videos are more technical in nature.

I have selected four videos to give you an idea of the available information. Not everything you find on YouTube videos is factual. Before following any medical suggestions, check with your doctor. Second opinions are always good. And sometimes, a third, or even a fourth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z92B-fiUbnE a neurosurgeon from the Mayo clinic gives a good overall description of acoustic neuromas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxmHPXcp2b4 Actor Mark Ruffalo answers specific questions about his acoustic neuroma. With honesty, he describes his recovery from surgery and the patience he needed. With humor, he describes the big advantage of single-sided deafness.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5WYmoxhtP0 This video gives good information about the support available from the Acoustic Neuroma Association. It also explains how the size of the tumor can direct the type of treatment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzM-S_xcsC0 This YouTube is all about hearing loss, including hearing aids of the future.  It doesn’t even mention acoustic neuromas, but since so many of us suffer hearing loss I think you might find it helpful. I did. It was broadcast on the CBS Sunday Morning show.

Guiding Father,

There is so much information on the internet, it’s confusing. Guide me to find helpful information and give me wisdom to know what to do with it. Amen.

. . . for God has said, I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.

  -Hebrews 13:5
